Comment on Tabari’s Tale by AHMAD A ABDULHAMID http://myoliveroots.org/culture/tabaris-tale/#comment-24352 Sun, 05 Jan 2020 17:52:13 +0000 http://myoliveroots.org/?p=67803#comment-24352 Wow! it’s an awsome life story and very touching. I knew Abu-Rashid and his brother Hisham back in the eighties and early nineties when I was working for them at Rany Contracting Company before immigrating to the US.
I learned a lot from Marwan during my time over there working on different projects in Abu Dhabi. He is a great man and was an honor knowing him and our path intertwined back then. Keep it going Abu Rashid!

It reminds me of a jordanian rice dish called mansaf. It is similar to this dish except they added a goat milk called jameed. You mentioned mix spices. What kind of spices you added in this dish?

Thank you

It was her who introduced me to your jewelry, which I totally adore. Proud to have Palestinian women like you to reflect how much beauty Palestine can offer to people all over the world. Wishing you and your beautiful family success and prosperity.

Comment on Kamal Boullata by Linda Nicola http://myoliveroots.org/arts/kamal-boullata/#comment-8936 Mon, 05 Aug 2019 01:22:06 +0000 http://myoliveroots.org/?p=68994#comment-8936 Kamal was the best man at my wedding. I, too, lost touch with him after he left America. I would love to make contact with him again, tell him about my daughter. We have a painting he made for her, using her name in Arabic script in his style. A real treasure.

I’m a friend of Kamal, but lost touch with him since he left the US.
I heard his older brother, Issa, just passed away.
If you are in touch with him, plse convey this message.
This is what I just wrote on Facebook to our Saint George’s Jerusalem group:

Sorry to be bearer of sad new, but Dr. Issa Boullata, the most amazing teacher I had at any level (KG to Ph.D.) recently passed away. Jonathan Kuttab informed me yesterday. He was an accomplished author and intellectual, with many publications. He was an expert on modern Arabic poetry, especially Iraqi poet Bader Shaker al-Sayyab, but also on many other topics. I can say with the absolutely NO reservation that he had more impact on my understanding of the world than anyone else. He taught us Arabic language and literature, but really also Arab history and philosophy, and made us so proud of our Arab identity. His classes were so much fun; he was like a performer in front of the class. Brilliant, funny, and very engaging. We really looked forward to his classes.

Below is his latest book, really a love poem written for his Jerusalem. I encourage all of you to get a copy (or more, to give as gifts.)

Happy Easter to you all! I was just telling my cousin today I never learned to make Kaak or mamoul. I have all of Tante Margo’s molds but I have never ventured to make them. Now that I have Tante Yvonne’s recipe I may give it a try :o)
